Nam Seng Coffee Shop, nestled in George Town, is a charming breakfast spot that attracts both locals and tourists with its clean and bright environment. Many reviewers recommend arriving before 9 am for a peaceful dining experience. The highlight here seems to be the wanton noodles, which draw mixed reviews. While some customers appreciate the satisfying large wantons, others find the sauce overly sweet and the noodles slightly sticky. A few suggest opting for the soup version next time for a better balance.
In addition to wanton noodles, the menu offers a variety of dishes. Elaine K praises the Hokkien prawn noodle soup as delicious, especially when topped with roast pork, while Mei L finds the Char Koay Teow generous in serving and rich in wok hei flavor, despite missing cockles. For those seeking deeper flavors, Jackie Chow’s mention of the satisfying Suikaw, a prawn dumpling, adds to the appeal of the menu.
Overall, Nam Seng Coffee Shop is a notable stop for breakfast lovers, offering a blend of traditional flavors and satisfying portions, though the coffee may leave some wanting more. It embodies the spirit of George Town’s culinary scene—an exploration of both local tradition and innovation.

Reviews for Nam Seng Coffee Shop
Review highlights
Based on 225 reviewsNam Seng Coffee Shop in George Town is praised for its clean, bright ambiance and relaxed breakfast setting, particularly popular among early morning visitors. The wantan mee is a standout menu item, appreciated for its large portions and flavorful soup, though some find the sauce slightly sweet or less fragrant. Other local favorites include the Hokkien prawn noodles and Char Koay Teow, which receives mixed feedback but is valued for generous portions. While some dishes outside the shop, such as curry mee nearby, are noted as equally good, Nam Seng’s prawn dumplings and crispy pork lard are frequently highlighted. Overall, the coffee shop attracts patrons seeking traditional Malaysian breakfast fare with consistent quality in a welcoming environment.
A delightful breakfast place. Come before 9am. The coffeeshop is clean and bright. Not too crowded. Good for a relaxing, quite breakfast in the old town. But... Though Nam Seng's wan tan noodles has been around for a long time, it isn't the best. I find the sauce too sweet; overpowering. The noodles, a bit on the sticky side. A possible way around this predicament could be to ask for the wantan noodles in soup instead of 'dry', which I plan to do next time. The consolation is that the wan tan are large. So they are satisfying. The chicken rice isn't ready in the mornings but there are also lam mee and char koay teow, which I haven't tried.
Always like the wanton mee. Never regret. The curry noodles on the roadside is equally good. Though not in Nam Seng coffee shop
Hokkien prawn noodle soup was yummy - ask to add some roast pork! Char Koay Teow was only ok… Curry Mee from across the street was good!
Isn’t my fav Wan Tan Mee, maybe the sou sauce isn’t fragrant enough. But the Suikaw (prawn dumpling) is very good, wrapped in a whole prawn with minced meat, a mouthful of dumpling, very satisfying. For those who love deep fried pork lard, u will be excited with the portion they given.
Come for breakfast at 8am. Have parking lot in front of coffee shop or park at roadside. Very good wanton mee, springy noodle, tasty soup and big wanton. Char kwee teow good with wok hei and 2 big prawn, consider generous for a $6/plate.though no cockles. Hailam mee is good, similar to sgp hokkien mee. Kopi so-so quality.
We tried the Shui Kow soup (from the Wan Than Mee stall) & the Pan Mee. The Shui Kow tasted good with generous meat filling. It was cooked just right. The best I have tasted and at hawker price!! The Pan Mee had many ingredients added especially anchovies. May be a little saltfish. I think thin noodle could taste better. Overall, 7/10. Street parking is a big challenge during lunch hours.
The stall here sells a ckt that is relatively unique because they add chai poh (preserved turnip / radish) in it, which is an ingredient you rarely see in ckt. Even though the wok hei isn't very prominent, I actually found the ckt otherwise quite delicious. Not very oily, relatively dry and kt quite well separated, not clumpy and thereby individually well seasoned. The kopitiam itself does have an adequate number of stalls to pique your interest with a stall selling baked bun, while others sell wtm, hokkien mee, loh mee, claypot yee mee, pan mee and of course the ckt. Not a bad place for a quick sit down.
Went there for lunch the other day. Tried wantan mee, pan mee and char koay teow. Wantan mee was great. Noodles was cooked to nice consistency and the sauce was nice. The best part was the wantan. It has thin wrap and full of meat filling.. Pan mee noodle was very nice, springy. The sambal that came with it was awesome too. Char koay teow was cooked by an old lady, and she definitely knows how to make good wok hei CKT. There were 3 prawns in there, and I like that it wasn't very oily. Highly recommended. There is a baked pastries stall in the coffee shop selling 烧包 and kaya puffs. Try that too, they are good Will definitely revisit.
